Purpose of the Awards
The Chairman's Awards recognise exceptional individuals and teams who have meaningfully contributed to advancing the Hayleys Group's vision and strategic goals. These awards celebrate:
- Innovative, creative, and impactful work
- The successful implementation of transformative projects, systems, or policies
- Performance that goes beyond the expectations of one's role
This guide is intended to help sectors understand the eligibility, criteria, and process for shortlisting nominees and selecting sector-level recipients for the Chairman's Awards.
At Hayleys, we believe that people thrive in environments where excellence is recognised, and where their contributions are genuinely valued. Recognising exceptional performance not only motivates individuals — it also cultivates a high-performance culture that drives creativity, collaboration, and results. It supports retention, enhances engagement, and strengthens our shared commitment to continuous improvement.
The Chairman's Awards are part of a broader recognition strategy designed to reinforce Hayleys' values and vision. The process is intended to be fair, transparent, and consistently applied across the Group, ensuring that excellence is rewarded equitably and meaningfully.
Awards Framework
The overarching theme for the Chairman's Award is a high standard of work performance aligned to achieving the Hayleys Corporate Strategies. Based on initial scoring and subsequent interviews:
- A sector-based award will be given to a winner (team or individual) from each sector.
- A category-based award will be given to a winner (team or individual).
- An overall Chairman's Award winner will be chosen based on the overall scores.
- Award applications must include projects or initiatives conducted during the past Financial Year.
Application Eligibility
All permanent confirmed employees of the Hayleys Group at Executive grade are eligible to apply.
All nominees (single or a team) must be permanent and confirmed.
Nominees must have completed 2 years of service at the time of applying. For teams, at least one member must satisfy this criterion.
A team, if nominated, can consist of a maximum of 10 members.
No contractual employees are eligible to apply.
An individual or work team can be nominated for excellent work performance above and beyond what would normally be expected of an employee.
Nominations can be made by an immediate supervisor, head of department, or fellow employee. Employees can also nominate themselves.
All applications are to be signed off by the immediate supervisor and the relevant GMC member / sector head prior to submitting.
A project can only be submitted for the award once, unless a significant development has taken place since the previous nomination — which can be considered a project in itself.
All individuals nominated for any award category must have had a significant role in the initiative or project.
The final recipients of the Chairman's Awards will be endorsed by the Chairman.
The decisions of the Judging Panel and the Chairman will be final.
Award Areas
There are 4 Award Categories which can be applied for. These areas have been defined to ensure that applications received relate to Group strategy. All Categories are of equal value and importance.
See the Categories page for full descriptions and scoring criteria.
Judging Process
An Internal Panel, consisting of select members from each sector, will conduct a preliminary screening of applications.
Applications must be submitted to Group Corporate Communications. Each sector is allowed to submit a maximum of three entries per category.
Hayleys Group Corporate Communications will forward the shortlisted applications to an External Judging Panel for further review.
The review process will include interviews with the applicants or groups by the External Judging Panel as part of their evaluation.
The External Judging Panel will select the Sector Winners. If deemed worthy, a Merit Award may also be granted. At the Chairman's discretion, the number of awards may be increased. A sector may not receive an award depending on the quality or quantity of submissions received.
The Overall Winner Award will be picked from one of the recipients of the sector awards for exemplary performance in the reviewed financial year. This could be awarded to an individual or team, based on merit.
- The overall winner award can only be presented to a project that has already been launched — not one in its conceptual or testing stage.
- The project / product / service should clearly demonstrate going beyond business as usual.
- The project should embody all of the Hayleys values: Integrity, Enduring Customer Value, A will to win, Respect for People, Good Citizenship, Teamwork and Accountability.
- The project should have been initiated from within the nominated team or person.
- It should have a problem-solving element whose results hold relevance to a larger problem prevailing in society or the market.
- An outline of significant outcomes and results must be presented.
Trophy, medals, and certificates will be provided for the winners of the Chairman's Awards. Certificates and medals will also be awarded to all winning team members.

Considerations Available for Sectors
Group Sectors will follow the Chairman's Awards scheme as specified above in a uniform manner. However, the following considerations are allowed.
Sectors can choose to recognise shortlisted applicants whose projects do not win. This is above and beyond the Chairman's Awards scheme and is at the discretion of the Group Sector. This needs to be communicated to employees at the launch of the Programme within the respective sector.
Confidentiality
All persons involved in the Awards process — including Hayleys Corporate Communications Unit, nominators, fellow employees, GMC members, and internal and external judging panels — must ensure confidentiality regarding all aspects of the Awards is maintained at all times.
